Due to COVID-19 and the Ohio Stay-at-Home Order, we are not permitted to meet until further notice. (Of course, you already knew this.) April’s meeting was to feature our Youth Scholarship Program. This year, our Scholars will post their presentations on our website. Our May Pancake Breakfast and Plant Swap is cancelled. We will reschedule this event at a later date.

Like our bees, we are social and enjoy gathering together. I really miss seeing everybody. We were lucky, for most Associations were not able to have Bee Schools at all this year. We were forced to close early. This resulted in a loss of new beekeepers and Association funds. We were able to complete two of our three classes. COBA gave free memberships, and refunded class fees, to those “WannaBees” who were unable to attend their class.

I am very proud of COBA’s commitment to helping new beekeepers. Unfortunately, we are not able to use OSU’s bee yard. Thanks goes to our awesome tech-savvy volunteers, who will make this year’s First Year Bee Yard happen virtually. We will be able to continue to help our NewBees via FaceBook until it’s safe to meet at the Bee Yard.

We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Bee Safe, Bee Healthy,

Mike Hatter
